Three Musicians
July 14, 2008
Three musicians playing proud
Each have their flare; they’re cross to bear
Each own a corner, set up their lair
The first one dancing, the river edge
Beneath the Paris castle ledge
A crowd of people, cheered him on
Laughing as they sang along
The second musician had a trick
He played accordion, like a headless horseman
The people tossed him, coins of plenty
Then stood behind him, true friends not many
Without his mask, he wore a frown
It’s a lonely life, for a music clown
The third musician played for himself
The people passed him; no coins went in
Cliché’s he played, his rent not paid
One girl who watched, he played for her
Every self taught note, the guitar he coaxed
Fingers in blur he wished they were
Gently touching her soul
The people gone, but he played on
She approached him shyly, he asked her kindly
To sing his heartfelt song
The notes she sang they touched his heart
He found the voice to play the part
Her phrasing perfect her tone so sweet
She sang for him, they felt complete
A crowd had gathered to watch this magic
The more they played more people stayed
They tossed the coins they felt the love
They swayed in rhythm they sang along
His playing matched her heartfelt song
When it was over who could believe
What happened there was it a dream?
‘
What happened next, I leave to you
Sometimes the moment leaved us the clue
It’s all we have; it’s all we have
The three musicians went separate ways
This is their gig it’s how they play
The dancer danced the trickster tricked
Instruments touched the audience
Next time you watch the streets come alive
Musicians play and we survive
Without the people who stop and stare
What have they got? Who pays their fare?
The moments here the moments gone
But every night, music plays on
