Yesterday I atended an event at Full Sail University where Bruce Swedien spoke about his years recording Michael Jackson, (’78-’81). In the green room before the event, I got to ask him about ‘Billie Jean’. He said Michael and him got to mix #92 before Quincy came in and asked them what they were doing the last two days.When they played him the mix, he did not smile but asked them to put up mix #2. They all agreed that was the ‘one’.
Lesson learned: don’t overwork an idea and go with your instincts.
It was great to hear a master of his craft speak for 3 hours.
